Literal Albatross: A Thing by Doug Driesel Jr. |
Doug Driesel Jr. is, as the name suggests, is the second Doug Driesel. However, he’s the first Doug Driesel to be a stand-up comic. Doug was forged from the finest comedian parts Southwestern Missouri could provide, where he hosted a popular comedy radio show in college. Fresh off of not finishing college, he promptly lumbered off to Los Angeles. While working at becoming very good at making coffee-style drinks, he studied improv and sketch comedy at The Upright Citizens Brigade, Westside Comedy and IO West theatres. Doug’s comedy landed him and his stand-up an appearance on The History Channel’s ‘History of the Joke’ and The Eagle Rock Comedy Festival. Doug also appeared alongside George Wendt on the show ‘As Seen on TV,’ while his debut comedy album ‘My Name is Dave’ has been hailed by critics as “Available on iTunes.” Doug can currently be seen performing around Los Angeles and the Midwest, as a contributing writer for IO West’s ‘Top Story,’ and anywhere injustice rears its ugly head.

Do you remember when Joe Walsh used to be a recurring character on The Drew Carey Show? No, of course you don’t. But take my word for it. One episode, Drew’s band, “The Horndogs,” which included Joe Walsh, played in a battle of the bands with Reverend Horton Heat.
Reverend. Horton. Heat. Lost. How’s that for Hollywood magic? And did you know Kevin Pollack played the voice of the boss, Mr. Bell, in the first season? He did. Who’s Kevin Pollack you say? Remember The Usual Suspects? He was in that. No, that’s Kevin Spacy. But he’s close. No, that’s Gabriel Byrne! Look, it doesn’t matter. We’re getting off track. And we haven’t even gotten to Willow yet (Kevin Pollack was in that, too. NO, THAT’S WARRICK DAVIS!).
My point is that Joe Walsh used to be awesome. He’s still pretty cool, for an old guy, but have you heard The Eagle’s new song “Lucky That Way?” It’s like a motorcycle mechanic from Lanford, IL wrote it. That seems like a specific reference, Doug. That’s because it is.
So, let’s see. Talk about The Drew Carey Show? Check. Look up how to spell Warrick Davis? No check. I did not do that. And refuse to. Take that, Wicket! Note that I did look up how to spell “Wicket,” and it would have taken one extra click to find out if I spelled a real life person’s name. I think that’s pretty cold. You know what? I’ll be right back.
I did not. His name is Warwick. Which is a real name. I could have sworn that I knew of someone named “Warrick,” and I said, “Warwick?” And the person I was talking to, very curtly, corrected me to “Warrick.” And I really did think that the person in question was Warwick Davis. Alas. This. Is. Not. The. Case.
Check list back out. Number three. End this stupid blog post? Check.
